Thankyou for your involvement in Heritage Open Day in 2017

There are pictures to be viewed or downloaded here.. The map of properties had a quiz to find the pictures that did not match the property. There were four: St Ethelwold's House and Abingdon Baptist Church ha been swapped. St Helens and St Michaels Church were also swapped.

 

Properties - Saturday 9th September

Abingdon-on-Thames has a large number of historic buildings. Heritage Open Weekend is an opportunity to visit many of these free of charge. A map of properties open in Abingdon in 2017 can be viewed or downloaded here.

Most events and open properties are on Saturday 9th September. However the Abbey Buildings and The County Hall Museum will also be open on Sunday 11th and there will be a programme of heritage walks on that day. There will also be exhibitions earlier in the week.

Walks: Sunday 10th September 2017

The Boundary Walk leaves at 11a.m. from the Market Place and follows the town boundary as it was when the Royal Charter was granted in 1556. You will be accompanied by a Town Crier. The walk is about 4 miles and takes about 2 hours.

Made in Abingdon leaves at 11 a.m and 2 p.m. from Abingdon Market Place (1.5 hours and 1 mile) Walk. Takes you on a tour of where Abingdon's industry used to be in the town centre and Ock Street.

CANCELLED - Abingdon Rivers leaves at 11 a.m. from Abingdon Market Place (2 hours and 3 miles) Walk. Three Rivers: Thames, Ock and Stert. - Walk Leader in hospital

Abingdon's Water Supply leaves at 11 a.m. from Abingdon Market Place (1.5 hours and 1 mile). A look back at old wells channels and pumps.

Lost Abbey leave at 2 p.m. from Abingdon Market Place Walk.

Tours of Abingdon’s Guildhall:

Tours of the Guildhall will take place at 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00 on Saturday 9th September. Places are limited so you are advised to book by e-mailing enquiries@abingdon.gov.uk .

Made in Abingdon - Community Freespace, Bury Street (opposite Samuels) from Monday 4th September to Saturday 9th September.

Abingdon then and now - a floral walk through Abingdon's history at the Abbey Buildings between 8th and 10th September. Put on by the Abingdon Flower Club.
