Christ’s Hospital Hall

Long Alley Almshouses, OX14 5EJ - Saturday 8 September 10.00 – 16.00

A rare chance to see the ancient Hospital Hall, in use since the 16th century, with its fascinating paintings; there are also artefacts and information relating to the life of the past residents.

Abingdon Abbey Buildings

 Checker Walk, OX14 3JB - Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September 10.00-16.30

The beautiful medieval buildings and gardens will be open for visitors to see exhibitions of their history and of the plans for the future, and there will be opportunities to talk to those involved in the Heritage Lottery funded project to enhance them. Refreshments available.

Merchant’s House at 26a East St Helen Street

In addition, the medieval Merchant’s House at 26a East St Helen Street will be open on Saturday 15 September from 10.00 to 16.00. Come and see its many original features including medieval windows and fireplaces and a remarkable domestic wall painting.

Also view the parade starting at the Guildhall along East St Helen Street before the Civic Service on Sunday 9 September. The Mayor's Civic Service will take place at 10.30am at St Helen's Church.

Abingdon County Hall Museum also has an exhibition celebrating 50 years of the Abingdon Area Archaeological and Historical Society from 7th July to 23rd September 2018.
