Heritage Open Day in 2018

In 2018 we will be having a quiet year with just a few properties open (and no central organisation). There will also be some walks on Sunday, and the town's civic service at 10:30am with a parade beforehand. A bigger event will return in 2019 with a new organiser.

Properties - Saturday 8th-9th September

Christ’s Hospital Hall (Saturday from 10:30 to 16:00) Long Alley Almshouses, built in 1446 for poor people by the Fraternity of the Holy Cross, one of the two medieval guilds of St Helen’s Church. Part of this building called Christ’s Hospital Hall is open. No wheelchairs.

Abbey Buildings (Saturday to Sunday from 10:30 to 16:00) Remains of the domestic buildings of the medieval abbey, now owned and maintained by The Friends of Abingdon. Of particular note are the 13th century Checker with its imposing chimney, Long Gallery, Undercroft, and Unicorn Theatre.

Many of the churches are open for Ride and Stride and so will be open to look round during Saturday, including St Helens, St Nicolas, St Michael, and Trinity.

Walks: Sunday 9th September 2017 - TBC
